A downloadable tool for Windows
OmniBus is a super lightweight and super simple way to stream audio between Windows computers over a local network.
To use it, just run it on all computers concerned. Set as many or as few "send" or "receive" machines as you like -- it will mix the audio into one stream seamlessly.
On 44.1KHz/16 bit setups its output is bit-perfect. On higher quality setups it is downsampled to 44.1KHz/16 bit but not compressed.
Latency is very low. OmniBus can reach less than 100 millisecond latency. On a fast network it can reach latencies so low that sounds from different sources can merge into one apparent sound.
OmniBus is based on multicasting so it doesn't take up too much bandwidth on your network -- only one copy of the sound is sent out no matter how many machines you're outputting to.
Requires .NET Framework 2.0.
